Tom Reese, documentary photographer, shows his photographs and speaks with students in my advanced digital / documentary class yesterday at Youth In Focus. Tom showed his long-term photo projects on the Duwamish Waterway and on a family affected by early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.
Each quarter we invite one noted photographer to speak to our class. We’ve been honored to have amazing photographers like Tom, Alan Berner and Betty Udesen tell us about their work, their technique, and how they establish a rapport with their subjects. Sessions usually end with a Q & A and students always say they wish the they could stay longer!
Having worked in the multiple photographic disciplines: documentary, commercial and fine art, I’ve been fortunate to work alongside some incredibly talented colleagues and make some long-lasting friendships.
Though they are all have very busy lives, they always unhesitatingly say “yes” when asked to speak and generously give their time and share their expertise with students.
